The Dynamic 2040 Series Amps recreate vintage American and British tone but they don't stop there. The engineers at Dynamic set out to build a rock solid hand wired amplifier that captures many of the sonic characteristics of popular American and British amps while offering features that expand the sonic palette without unnecessarily increasing complexity.
While tweed and black face era American amps (class AB) have a warm, smooth sound when overdriven, British Class A (cathode bias) are popular for a more complex sound, with a chimey distortion that retains clarity in the individual notes of a chord. Many vintage amps tend to have a soft low-end, and compression becomes significant at higher volumes, losing some pick dynamics sensitivity.
The Dynamic 2040 was intentionally designed to capture the desirable elements while improving on their respective sonic and mechanical weaknesses. Dynamic builds a rugged, a very easy to consistently dial-in amp that sounds amazing with single-coil or “humbucker” pickup types.
The output power of the 2040 ranges from 20W to 40W, depending on output tube selection and measurement technique. The 2040 features three preset bias ranges and a plate voltage setting (Hi and Lo) so the player can choose a favorite tube type (octal only). Factory bias settings are for 6V6, 6L6 and EL34, the most popular output pairs. Pre-biasing for 6550 and 5881 pairs is possible when ordering. Dynamic Amps are Hand Built in Kalamazoo, MI USA.
This is one of the best new amp lines we've seen in a long time and we highly recommend Dynamic Amps.
